Urannah Dam funds ready to flow

The Morrison Liberal National Government has now signed off on its 2019 Election commitment to provide $10million in funding for the transformative Urannah Dam Project which has the potential to open up at least 20,000 hectares of agricultural land and create more than 1800 jobs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Michael McCormack has advised me that all the federal government processes have now been finalised and he has signed off on funding of $10 million for Bowen Collinsville Enterprise to progress the Urannah Dam to shovel ready stage.

The 1.5 million megalitre Urannah Dam will be a game changer for our region and open up high value agricultural land, support regional communities like Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine and also provide water for mining.

The Urannah Water Scheme office opened in Bowen a couple of weeks ago, and a lot of work has been ongoing by the proponent for some time.

This funding of $10 million under the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund provides the necessary injection of funds to get us to construction phase.

The Federal Government investment for this project will be delivered through the feasibility component of the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund.

I do urge the Queensland Government to expedite their processes as well, because that is the final step now before Bowen Collinsville Enterprise get on with the next phase of this development.
