George lives in the North Queensland city of Mackay where he was born, raised and educated. George is serving his fourth term as an Australian Member of Parliament for the Dawson electorate, Queensland. He is an advocate for traditional Australian values and culture. He stands up for his region and fights for local jobs.

Dawson is a diverse Queensland coastal electorate stretching from the city of Mackay, north through the regions of the Whitsundays, Bowen, the Burdekin, and to the southern suburbs of Townsville. Key industries within the electorate are mining, manufacturing, agriculture and tourism.

My office has recently received several reports from concerned locals about a similar phone scam that’s being doing the rounds.

The dodgy calls came from someone falsely claiming to represent Telstra and NBN asking for payment of $399 to continue their phone service.

Grants on offer to power community groups

Community groups across the region will be supported by a new Morrison McCormack Government program to lower energy costs and support local jobs.

The Powering Communities Program will fund up to 12 projects worth a total of $67,700 in each electorate, including Dawson. Grants of between $5,000 and $12,000 will be available to eligible community organisations, with no co-contribution required.

Local volunteer groups can now apply for federal funding to support them in the work they do to help others.

A double round of funding is up for grabs to cover two financial years, with $132,450 available for the electorate of Dawson under the Morrison Liberal National Government’s Volunteer Grants program.
