Let’s push back on Cancel Culture

A belated Happy New Year, although things don’t seem to have gotten off to a happy start for 2021.

I thought things were bad enough last year with multinational Big Tech corporations silencing and censoring conservatives for expressing their opinions or for posting facts that the Left doesn’t like. (By the way, I have a petition running on that issue that you can sign up to. More on that below.) But the fake news media has decided to outdo Big Tech by trying to have Federal Member for Hughes Craig Kelly silenced, censored and cancelled from public life.

And for what? Mr Kelly has simply highlighted studies - many of them peer-reviewed studies - showing the efficacy of certain treatments for COVID-19. He has also pointed to expert opinion, like that of immunologist Prof Robert Clancy who wrote in Quadrant magazine online that: “Two drugs are effective (for treating COVID-19): hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), and ivermectin (IVM) with most effective trials including nutraceutical, zinc and intracellular antibiotics.” According to the media, this immunologist mustn’t know anything about science and specifically, well, immunology!

Whether Prof Clancy’s medical opinion is right or wrong, surely it is a view that requires debate and discussion and not cancellation. But the media wants Craig Kelly completely removed from public life because he dared share such “dangerous” information (although I’m not quite sure what the danger is as no one can run out and buy hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin).

I even saw one morning TV show host invite Mr Kelly on to their show and then, when he started spitting facts, tell him that “I actually didn’t want to get you on here to determine whether or not what you’re saying is true or not.” Seriously. This is how low the fake news media has sunk these days. They are simply not interested in determining whether things are true or not, they just want to silence you if you say “the wrong thing”.

Another example: Former rugby star Israel Folau was about to be signed up to the NRL’s St George Dragons. There was the typical media hype (accompanied by a whole heap of busybody sideline commentators) pointing out that he’s publicly expressed a biblical view on sexuality. Now, I’m a Christian as well but I couldn’t care less if Israel was a Muslim expressing the Koranic view on sexuality. This should have no impact on his ability to play professional football in any code. But it did. Because of the media storm, the Dragons dumped Izzy before they’d even picked up the pen to sign the contract.

At this point, I’m reminded of German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller’s poem “First they came for…”, which I’ve rewritten for today’s mixed-up world:

First they came for Donald Trump, and I did not speak out—because I was not Donald Trump.

Then they came for Craig Kelly, and I did not speak out—because I was not Craig Kelly.

Then they came for Israel Folau, and I did not speak out—because I was not Israel Folau.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

They have already tried to come for me actually. One Labor apparatchik was upset that I posted a picture of socialist George Soros online, accused me of antisemitism (despite the fact that I am someone of Jewish ancestry) and said I should be rebuked by the Prime Minister. A senior Labor MP said my profile on the (ironically now deplatformed) free speech social media platform Parler was somehow wrong and that I should be ordered off it by the Prime Minister. Another Labor MP criticised me for opposing the Chinese Communist Party and said the Prime Minister should sack me from the chairmanship of the Federal Parliament’s Trade and Investment Growth Committee.

What is it with Labor, the Left and Cancel Culture?

All I know is we need to push back against this Cancel Culture before it’s too late.

Reclaim Keswick Island: An update

I travelled to Keswick Island to talk with local residents and property owners about all the dramas they have been having with their new Chinese landlords.

If you haven’t yet heard the story of Keswick Island, reporter Peter Gleeson wrote an excellent summary of the situation in The Courier Mail in November last year, in which he said that Keswick was “a little slice of island paradise nestled snugly off Queensland’s coast – a “forever” home for those who live there. But that all changed when the state government handed over a long-term lease of the island to a Chinese-based company”.

I was pretty concerned at what I saw on the island, and what actually went down on my visit. From the moment I set foot on the island, I was under the watchful eye of security guards, contracted by island management. I saw first hand the evidence that access points on the island had been restricted or made difficult for residents. Click here or the picture above to watch a video of my trip to Keswick.

I recently wrote an article for The Spectator Australia magazine where I pointed out how these social media corporations used to tout themselves as being free speech advocates. I specifically referred to a 2015 tweet by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey that declared “Twitter stands for freedom of expression.”

How times have changed.

Now, if you have a view that offends the luvvies on the Left or even if you post a FACT that the Left do not like you can be silenced, sin-binned, censored, shadow-banned or just plain cancelled - booted off their system. They even did it to the Leader of the Free World. If they can do it to him, they can do it to anyone.

I have found it amusing how many Lefties have been rushing to the defence of these Big Tech multinational corporations, saying how they are private companies and so can do what they like. Wrong. Private companies in Australia that provide services like power, water or telecommunications cannot cut off a customer because they don’t like their political views. I would argue some of these social media giants have become that big that they now (frighteningly) dominate the public square and so regulatory action around how they operate must be taken.

Poland is taking action on Big Tech. As is Florida in the USA. Now its time for Australia to do the same.

Beyond the Fake News…

Beyond the mainstream media we discover the truth. Here’s what I’ve been reading:

Sticking with the Cancel Culture theme, this article in The Spectator Australia defends offence and this one points out the hypocrisy of the Big Tech giants with their biased censorship.

The Good Sauce features two great opinion pieces by young author and commentator Kurt Mahlberg who points out that Big Tech censors conservatives but doesn’t censor porn and how good journalists are being cancelled by the mainstream fake news media.

And over at Caldron Pool, they’re turning the tables on a media figure for being part of the mob that cancelled Izzy Folau and they’re also highlighting the meteoric rise of politically incorrect rapper Tom MacDonald who has taken on Cancel Culture with his hit song “Fake Woke”.

I’m not a huge rap fan but I know what I like and I like that song. Watch Tom MacDonald spit his rhymes on YouTube and if you want to clarify the quick rap lyrics check out the AZLyrics website for the detail.

More on The Great Reset: The Washington Times unravels the hybrid corporatist/socialist monstronsity of an idea that is The Great Reset and warns it is heading to America. If we are not careful it could be headed here too.

Communist China Watch: In the past month, Xi JinPing has put China on a war footing and they’ve invaded Taiwan’s airspace and, because of all of this, there’s real concern about the potential for nuclear war and also about what conflict between the US and Communist China will mean for Australia.

However, conflict may not be a worry at all. The Daily Wire reports that China experts are open wondering whether the Biden Administration will stand up to Communist China on anything at all. The left-wing Washington Post even pointed out that Biden, as part of the Obama Administration, was opposed to the current President of Taiwan.

And to make matters worse, The National Pulse has revealed a slew of Biden advisers have deep ties with the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese military.
