While pro-life and pro-choice advocates might disagree on many things, you would think that everyone would agree that when a child is born it’s a life and a life worth protecting.

It seems not though.The vitriol and lies that have been directed at my proposed Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2021 are proof of that.

Across our nation, children are being born alive as a result of abortion and, sadly, discarded and left to die when they should be given a chance at life.

Queensland Health’s Clinical Guidelines on the Medical Termination of Pregnancy spells out to medical practitioners that if “a live birth occurs (as a result of an abortion)... do not provide life sustaining treatment... document the time and date of death.”

Australia is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child which states every child has the inherent right to life and that no child shall be deprived of medical treatment and asks signatories to place a particular emphasis on diminishing infant mortality when addressing that latter right.

And yet research conducted by the Parliamentary Library indicates there could be hundreds of babies born alive as a result of abortions in Australia that are left to die. We don’t know the full details, as data in this area is sketchy at best but we do know that children are born alive as a result of abortions in Australia and are simply left to die.

How on Earth is this situation living up to the principles we subscribed to in the Convention on the Rights of the Child?

That’s why I have drafted the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2021, which requires medical practitioners to treat babies born alive as a result of abortions just as they would babies born alive of any other type of birth.

False claims have been made by abortionists, feminists and the fake news media that my bill will force doctors to try and prolong the life of children who are just not able to survive. That is a lie. My bill will do nothing of the sort.

What my bill will do is ensure that medical practitioners must provide care for young Australians appropriate to the circumstances, which could be treatment to save a healthy life or palliative care to comfort a child that has no chance of survival.

Time to reclaim another port!

The Daily Telegraph recently reported:

New revelations about the close ties of the Port of Newcastle’s part-owners to the Chinese Communist Party have raised further questions about the wisdom of allowing Beijing to hold a 50 per cent stake in Australia’s largest coal export facility.

According to company documents, China Merchants Group (CMG), parent company of China Merchant Ports which took a 50 per cent stake in the Newcastle port as part of a privatisation deal organised by then-NSW Premier Mike Baird, boasts that it is guided by “Xi Jinping thought.”
